Are Beauty Pageants Worth

Are Beauty Pageants really worth all the hassle? The organization of beauty pageants was founded in 1921 by an Atlantic City hotel owner (Nussbaum). The main reason that he created the pageant life was to keep the tourist in town longer. It was a marketing tool for the hotel (Nussbaum). The term that everyone uses for beauty queen is ‘Miss America’, this was brought upon the world by a news reporter that thought it was a clever name (Nussbaum). Pageants were discontinued from 1929-1932 due to the Great Depression” (Nussbaum). In 1983 Vanessa Williams becomes the first African-American titled Miss America. In 1994 the first handicapped woman wins the title of Miss America. The pageantry world helps introduce a face to the faceless troubles of racism, handicaps and illnesses. People believe that pageants are a great thing but in all reality they aren 't. The scholarships and politics of it all is pointless. All of what it takes to be in a beauty contest could have been useful in other ways. Being in pageants is not worth the time or day or price.
A major thing in beauty pageants is that its waste of time and distance. In the following states there is no laws that states beauty pageants are not allowed; New York, Texas, Massachusetts, Arkansas, California, Vermont and Maine so therefore it is presumed beauty pageants (Nussbaum).
