From eating other human beings to slitting their own throat, bath salts make people do immensely horrific things. The primary form of bath salts was created in the 1920’s by a French scientist but was largely passed over until it was rediscovered shortly before 2004 (Gerbis). Since then, bath salts have been the cause of a number of cruel and frightening deaths. Bath salts are classified as a schedule one drug, meaning they have zero medical use. If there is any invention that must be un-invented, it should be bath salts.
Bath salts were first prevalent in the country of Israel and commonly called, “hagigat.’ Like a reasonable government, Israel banned the manufacturing and distribution of bath salts as soon as they realized the toll it was taking on their people. One of the biggest problems with bath salts is that is it very easy to just tweak the formula a minuscule amount so that it evades the ban from the law and it still makes people go just as crazy. As of 2015, it is estimated that 1,280,000 8th graders engaged in the use of bath salts in the U.S. alone (NIDA). Over one million children who are not even in high school yet took this terrible drug. 2015 is also three years after the federal ban on bath salts and the number would be much lower than in 2012. Bath salts have obviously infiltrated American society a lot more than people care to acknowledge. Another reason bath salts are prevalent is because it is a common myth that they will not show up on drug tests, so addicted persons on parole or something frequent this drug as a way to try and avoid being detected (Carter).
