Are Athletes Overpaid

Improved Essays
Could you imagine getting paid over one million dollars, just for running, throwing, and catching, it’s unbelievable! Well, most athletes today get paid over ten million dollars, and with that amount of money, it could break the economy. Therefore, athletes are overpaid.
Athletes in the past have shown to not be very financially smart. First, 78% of NFL players went into bankruptcy after retirement. Similarly, 60% of NBA players go bankrupt after five years of retirement. Therefore, this would mean that only 22% of NFL players, and 40% of NBA players, were financially smart enough to avoid bankruptcy, after 5 years, or more. In conclusion, most athletes were not responsible with the money they earned.

I am personally a collegiate athlete and knows what an athlete goes through. Players shouldn’t get paid millions of dollars like professional athletes, because why would players go on to try and play professionally. On the contrary they should deserve some type of revenue whether it's for clothes shopping, take someone out on a date, gas money, etc. For example that’s the same thing as me asking my friend to do something for me and he does all the work while I sit back and relax.…
