For this ITT Tech Capstone project, I chose to avoid the pre-built electronics kits and create something practical and with purpose for my daughter Kylie. The project required more preparation and artistic ability, but was more rewarding and functional. The project plan was to create an entrance way for the Northwest Elementary Fifth grade graduation ceremony, by designing the capstone project to this goal, I was able to reduce the ceremony cost for the Parent and Teacher Association (PTA) and reduce the amount fundraising required for the Fifth grade graduation ceremony. The Arduino Uno operates twenty Flora RGB Smart NeoPixel version 2 to change the color of the cut out theme letters. The fan motor operates independently to inflate the fabric form. The Silver fabric form was made of waterproof sport fabric which was sewn and sealed to create and air tight free moving form. For the construction of the base, concrete form tubes and lumber was used. The cardboard form was covered with monster mud or special effects film, which is basically two-parts plaster to one-part paint. After applying two smooth coats with a brush, a roller was used to apply two more coats. This process adds texture to the base and hides the seams of the cardboard. Paper letters are cut and taped to tube to mark spacing and then Cellulose clay, which is a combination of monster mud and shredded paper mixed together, was used to build-up each letter to give them volume and a 3-D appearance.
