Arcimboldo's Renaissance Style Of Art

Improved Essays
Inspired by Arcimboldo’s Renaissance style of art, I have utilized the style element to recreate a self-portrait with my own style. The artwork comprised of several medias from colored pencil, watercolor, acrylic paint, and even pencil drawings. Applying the techniques like shadings and color values learn from the class, I attempted to create a semi three-dimensional artwork that speaks about me as a person, my personality and what I value.
Each element resembles me as a person. The clock gears are symbol of robotics, a best interest in life. The plants symbolize my tranquil nature. I have a very open heart, thus the raw heart represents how I am open for caring others. Water is vital to our life; I love to drink water, a magic potion to cure

Self Portrait, Myself at 66, is an oil on canvas, painted by Mathias J. Alten at his home studio in Grand Rapids, Michigan. and is most likely his final self-portrait. It currently resides in the George and Barbara Gordon Gallery at Grand Valley State University as a part of a collection titled ‘Mathias J. Alten: An American Impressionist’. Alten painted himself as a gray-haired man with a white shirt and gray pants, holding a palette and paintbrushes. It is evident in this work that Alten has painted this image as a reflection of himself in a mirror, because although right-handed, his portrait presents him as left-handed.…

In “Painting and Experience in Fifteenth Century Italy” by Michael Baxandall, he emphasizes the relationship between the patron and the artist when creating a piece of work during that time. The Patron played an important role in the creation of many pieces in public places such as churches, and many had different reasons as to why they commissioned these works of art. When an artist and patron enter an agreement, most of the time they would keep contact and had a more personal relationship(in a way that they would contact each other frequently). The patron would list their requirements for the painting such as the materials they would like to use, and the artists would come up with a form of contract. These contracts differ from artist to…

During the Renaissance period of the 14th to 17th century, art and architecture between Northern Europe and Italy were both similar and different in many ways. From the detailed work of everyday life of the North to the Neoplatonic allegories of Italian work, the Renaissance was a time of transition and strength. The most dominant similarity between Northern European and Italian Renaissance artwork lies behind the meaning of humanism. During the Renaissance, there was “rebirth of culture”; a shift towards people acknowledging human achievement. In religious pieces of art, Jesus was seen as less Godly and more human-like with emotion.…

My inspiration for my art piece was “Minoan Queens”, better know as the “Ladies in Blue. “Ladies in Blue” is a Minoan fresco painting that was discovered in fragments during the excavation of the Palace of Knossos in Crete, Greece. To be more specific, it was Buon fresco, or “true fresco”. It was 61½ inches by 40 inches and it is thought to have been created around 1525-1450 B.C. As we have learned in class, this Cretan palace was full of murals and fresco paintings. Like many Minoan paintings, this piece exhibits profile views but frontal-facing eyes and eyebrows.…
