"For [Eliade] archetypes are 'sacred paradigms' or 'exemplary models' that characterize the sacred or transcendent aspect of life that springs from primordial 'myth time'--archetypal time--as opposed to the profane aspect of life, that which is dominated by material things and linear time" (Leeming 27). There are various general archetypes within The Graveyard Book. The characters’ archetypes are comprised of their personality and purpose within the story and also their physical descriptions.

The graveyard itself is a Garden archetype because it is a peaceful place and is a nature reserve, also. Even though it is a place of somberness and ghosts, the graveyard is Bod’s home and safe haven.
The color grey is also used in the description of the Lady on the grey stallion, she represents death.
