In the movie, this is shown through Coach Boone. He is the head coach of the Titans. Not only does he act as the head coach, but he acts as the mediator of all the commotion going on in the town. Before the integration of the high school, everyone in that town had a “live and breath football” mentality. After the school allowed african american students, it divided not only the football team, but the entirety of the town as well. Coach Boone acted as the ego because throughout all of the hate he got from students and parents, he did not let that change the way he did things.
