Many books have many different archetypes and they can vary from each one but in the book “Love? Maybe.” by Heather Hepler, the character Claire is definitely the innocent/outcast archetype. Even though she isn’t the main character she is still a big part of the story. Claire can be described as the Innocent/outcast archetype for many reasons. This is because she always has a positive outlook on a situation, she is also very gentle and caring toward many people. But she can also be described as an outcast because she is lonely at times throughout the story, and it is also hard for her to trust people. The first reason why Claire can be described as an Innocent archetype is that she has a positive outlook on negative situations. This is because …show more content…
At times during the story, Claire can be the outcast of the story. This is because she can be described as the loner of her friend group. The reason why is because she is awkward in some situations, she’s lonely now and again, and it’s hard for her to trust new people. The first reason why Claire is the outcast is that she is awkward in many situations. For example, whenever she has a conversation with some new she gets very uncomfortable and starts to say random stuff. The next reason why Claire can be described as an outcast archetype is that she becomes lonely often. This is because when the book takes place it’s around valentine’s day. So when Claire sees everybody falling in love and all that she becomes lonely and depressed. “ Seeing everyone with their lovers just makes me sad, because I know I won’t have one anytime soon.” (Hepler 143). The final reasoning why Claire is an outcast is that it is hard for her to trust people she is not close to. When she’s with Jillian she can tell her anything. But when she meets someone new she doesn’t talk much. For example, when Jillian's boyfriend joins the group at the end of the book it is very hard for Claire to trust him. Soon she learns to accept him and trust him. In conclusion, many books have different archetypes. Some characters can be one archetype, but some can be multiple. Like Claire in the book “Love? Maybe”. Claire can be described as two archetypes and innocent archetype and the outcast. She can be described as an outcast because throughout the story she is lonely now and again. Also, she can be described as an innocent archetype because she is gentle and caring for others and she always has a positive outlook on negative

“The Outcasts…” has only one narrator. Because the story is written in third person limited point of view, this story also does not show any regionalistic qualities through the narrator. The narrator could be anybody because we do not know anything about them. It could also be said that this is a character outside of the story. This shows a direct contrast to the narrators in “The Jumping Frog…” since the narrators for that story are part of the story and serve as an advocate between the rural folk of the story and the urban audience to whom it is directed…

Just imagine a life where you feel like you have no one to fall back on. Your parents become abusive and alcoholics, and you don't feel like living with them anymore. In the book “The Foxman” a similar event happens to the main character and his parents. He gets sent to his Aunt Mildred and his Uncle Harold’s house due to an event of his mother slashing at him underneath the kitchen table with a butcher knife. In the book it shows the many different types of archetypes present, which includes archetypes of a witch, wise old man, and a hero.…

George Milton, a character from the book “Of Mice of Men” who in my opinion is a hero archetype. The hero archetype is a character who battles evil and helps the nature of good. He fits this archetype well because throughout the whole book he helps Lennie and kinda tries to lead him to the right path. He watches over Lennie and tries to keep him out of trouble. I choose this character because he seemed nice and different than other characters.…

Similar in many ways, every story read has a lesson learned at the end. For instance, Ebeneezer Scrooge is one of the wealthiest men in town, but his greed and grumpy attitude causes him to encounter the three ghosts of Christmas, that change his personality into a more loving and caring man. Without a doubt, Mr. Scrooge is an example of a character that changes throughout the story for the better. In other words, he is an archetype. An archetype is a prototype or model.…

Beowulf is a poem that was about a warrior from the geats who went on a journey to Hrothgar to slay a monster (Grendel) that is attacking the lands of the king of danes. Beowulf ends up defeating grendel and to show his strength he defeats grendel with his bare hands. The Canterbury Tales was a collection of stories that was proposed by the host of a group to kill time during their journey. I learned that archetypes are a universal symbol and are found in all types of stories. Beowulf is an example of an archetypical hero because he has inhuman physical strength, his courage when faced with danger, and he is loyal to his friends.…

The short story “A good man is hard to find“ by Flannery O’Conner is about an innocent family who is killed by a stranger but in reality it’s a killer. Flannery O’Conner uses situational, symbolic, character and setting archetype throughout the story. Situational archetype is when a plot is seen reapted across many types of work. In the short story it seems that when a family goes on a road trip to somewhere that they don’t know well usually ends up being bad, as in this story they didn’t know about the Misfit being loose from jail. In this short story, “A Good Man is hard to Find” about retaliation, Flannery O’Connor uses archetypes to demonstrate that the traumatic experience The Misfit went through when he was thrown in jail is the cause as to why he is a killer and commits horrendous crimes. Throughout the short story, O’Connor uses situational, symbolic, setting and character archetypes. Situational archetypes is when a situation or plot is repeated over and over and represents the same thing. Here, O’Connor uses vengeance as a situational archetypes, as the Misfit is taking vengeance by killing people after being wrongly accused of a crime he didn’t commit. Society: May Cause Side Effects Imagine a reality where one had no control over his own choices- whether its marriage, friends, or even taste in music. In the novel Age of Innocence, one would expect to live such a lifestyle. Taking place in upper class New York, the socialites “all lived in a kind of hieroglyphic world, where the real thing was never said or done or even thought, but only represented by a set of arbitrary signs” (Wharton 145). Wharton’s novel tells the story of personal freedom, and how it is stifled by the rigid social conventions of the time (McWilliams 268).…

He uses the words “outcast” and “ostracized” to describe nerds and geeks in order to stress the what they feel. The reader would feel pity for nerds and geeks and win them over emotionally. He also includes a dictionary definition of the word geek in order to compare “...a freak biting the head off a live chicken,” to “someone dedicated to pursuit of knowledge,” and how in American society, it is seen as the same thing. The fact that geeks are being compared to something as absurd as someone biting the head off a chicken triggers a logic/emotional reaction. It isn’t logical that something common in society would be compared to that definition, and it also triggers pity because of the cruelty of that comparison.…
