Archetypes and There Effect on Greek Culture
Archetypes are used in everyday life, you might, just might not know what they are or even realize them. You may take place in one or even many archetypes and not even know it. Archetypes are used in the Odyssey and some of these things affected Greek culture. The Odyssey is a poem about a man and his hard life and what he had to do to overcome these things. This essay will show how archetypes have influenced ancient Greek culture. Some of the archetypes that will be represented are heroic, temptress, and the helper/side kick. One of the many archetypes shown in the Odyssey is the heroic archetype. This is the type of person who would normally be the one to save the day, take charge, or be the one to win the battle. One example of this is when he “saves” Penelope. He had to get all the men to leave her alone, if he had not done that they could have taken over or even worse. One example of this would be Odysseus’s crew or the men that stuck with him for most of his adventure. They were always there for him, and to help him no matter what the situation and what he said. Like in times of need they would be there for him and also when he was doing well they were still there. This does not only take place in Greek culture but in all, you should always have people to back you up and you do the same. Another person who represented the side kick/helper archetype was Athena. She led him through his entire journey. She told him what to do and gave him “tricks” along the way. Like in Greek culture most people have someone they look up to or someone who leads them through times in need or even with just the slightest bit of help and this just didn’t happen all of a sudden.
