Through the use of motifs, character development, and archetypes, the creators of the movie Batman Begins convey the idea that everyone fears, but only those who have the courage to overcome it will thrive.
The character development throughout the story relies in a big change in consequence of Rachel’s words. Bruce Wayne gives the impression of being an unmotivated slacker with an attitude problem. He even comments that Alfred hasn't "given up" on him yet. Batman is unable to engage in or maintain a romantic relationship due to his alter-ego. To begin with, Batman sacrificed his love life because his portrayal of Bruce Wayne, the clueless playboy, is used as a guard for his heart. According to Cox, Batman’s obsession to be Batman has led his alter-ego to become emotionally distant from women, not allowing them to enter his life because Batman knows the power they can have over him (“Reflections of the Bat: An Examination of Bateman Villains” 2015). A great example was when Bruce Wayne let his guard down and fell in love Talia Al Ghul, daughter of Batman’s nemesis Ra’s Al Ghul. Symbolism is another significant portion in Bruce Wayne’s life as Batman. Freud would say that not only were Bruce’s dreams forms of symbolism, but also, more significantly and recognizably, Batman’s Batsuit and name. Another form of analysis that Freud could make about Batman and his life is by using his idea of the doctrine of opposites.…
