Archetypes are specimen of certain people. As put in illustration, a character could be a tragic hero or an initiate. Angela's Ashes takes a new approach to archetypes. The main complex and ill-mannered archetype in the story, Malachy, grapples to denounce his alcohol addiction and support his indigent family yet is led on the wrong path. He may not register as any tragic hero at first sight, but an "immoral" figure with a considerate heart. Frank's father, also familiar as Malachy, leads his family in a poverty-stricken environment. He consumes all his wages on alcohol instead of supporting his family, but is trying to seize. This displays that Malachy is trying his best to quit and actually cares about his family.
