Archetype In Tangerine Luis Cruz

Everyone has that one person who helps them in their life. There’s that one person in the novel Tangerine. In Edward Bloor’s novel Tangerine, Luis Cruz fits the mythological archetype of mentor because he aids, is a positive figure to, and trains Paul. Proving to be a mentor, Luis aids Paul. Aiding him means to help him in some way, shape, or form. For instance, when Paul is scared of Erik and Arthur, Luis helps him by saying, “I wouldn’t be scared they’re punks.” And you shouldn’t be either”(Bloor 277). Although Luis tells him not to be scared he also tells him why not. In this way, Bloor makes it clear that Luis is trying to help Paul in this situation. Imagine being afraid of something or someone, and your parents help you overcome your fear. This imagine is helpful because your parents helped you. He also aided Paul by saying, “I think that’s all for you today.” Bloor makes it clear that Luis wants to help Paul. Imagine you are cutting grass for your neighbor, and your neighbor wants you to stop because you have bad sunburn. This image seems very painful image. This is the same idea. …show more content…
For instance when Paul is about to leave the groves Luis wants he to come another time. Luis once said, “You should come again” (170). What he means is it would be great if u came again. He is being positive because he wants paul to come back. “The word should” gives you a positive image because he gave Paul a suggestion to come again. Another way Luis was being positive to Paul is when Luis smiled at Paul(172). The word “smiled” gives you positive feelings because smiling shows affection.
