The reason they enter the library is to prevent others from concentrating. They are constantly trying to enrage everyone else in the library. Some Troublemakers accomplish their goal by playing dog whistles. They take advantage of the fact that the librarians cannot hear the high-pitched noises and that it is almost impossible to distinguish exactly where the sound originated. Some Troublemakers play music straight from their iPad. They put themselves at risk being asked to leave the library because it is relatively easy to find the source of the disruption. It is clear who caused the sound when everyone is staring at the same person. While their motive sets Troublemakers apart from average students in the library, there are other qualities that differentiate their group from the others.
A Troublemaker can be immediately distinguished when silent study begins. When the librarian makes their declaration that the period of working in silence is beginning, they acknowledge the fact that the they will be asked to leave if they continue to talk noisily. Therefore, they resort to discrete methods of disruption. This includes dramatically coughing and sneezing. The dog whistles continue distract students as they either try to block them out or silently try to figure out who is producing them.
