The business we chose to do a marketing plan for is called Harper’s Garden Centre and is located in Hamilton’s west end (1039 Wilsons Lane, Hamilton). The cole slaw had a cold touch to the tongue like peppermint, and tasted fresh, like a organic vegetable garden. The clam chowder arrived and the sight of steam rising from the bowl made me anxious to try it immediately. The chowder had a slight orange color, and had big chunks of clams, potatoes, and sprinkled green parsley. The chowder was not too salty, not too clammy, it was just right of creaminess and clamminess. The delicious taste of New York steak, cole slaw, rice pilaf, and clam chowder is what made the food at Brophy Bros a…

The Imperial Valley: Permanent Oasis by Cory Phillips Imperial County, California has been a major agricultural, political, and commercial center in Southeastern California for over 100 years. Although the peripheral agricultural activities have been the focus and source of the region’s economy, the area’s role in agribusiness has also facilitated much urban growth. The farms in the Imperial Valley bring about $1,000,000,000 to the state’s economy each year. This rural and urban expansion has been enabled, exclusively, by the delivery of water from the Colorado River, via the All-American Canal, to the otherwise desiccated rift zone by the Imperial Irrigation District (IID). To date, the Imperial Valley has no source…

To think that I would have a completely different way of thinking about my daily activities from research of a painting of “The Garden of Earthly Delights” by Heironymus Bosch, this painting is a part of our first year read book that is brought up on many occasions by Frans Dee Waal who relates it back to the Bonobos. This painting required much time looking at and much research. To me this painting has made me come to think so much about temptations that we fight in our life, to me as a college student there’s so many temptations that I fight everyday, They are displayed in the painting through fruits there is a bramble bush that grows black berries, a pelican feeding its young, men holding fruit with a stroke’s head, they represent that temptations are all around us, they can consume us and they will make us weak. To give some background on the painting, the painting is a triptych, which were made for religious purpose and placed on a alter in the churches, but if you when you are to look at this painting you don’t see that…

In both the works of Monica White and Gail Myers, resistance through regaining control of food is key. White writes that Fannie Lou Hamer worked to “creat[e] an oasis of self-reliance and self-determination in a landscape of oppression maintained in part by deprivation” through the Freedom Farms in Mississippi (33). Although the Freedom Farmer’s Market in Oakland is not necessary aiming for self-reliance, Myers writes that “[b]lack people who come say it is like walking through an oasis of safety” (151). In both cases, resistance comes in the form of providing a community for a group of disadvantaged people to assemble. With this assembly of cultural exchanging comes revived spirit and control— all of which provide the platform for political, social, and economic change.…
