I am interning at an outpatient program at Arbour Fuller Hospital in South Attleboro, Ma. Many of the patients are suffering from substance abuse and mental health disorders. The program is out patient; however there is housing available to those who need it. Roughly two thirds of the patients live on campus. The other patients come from many different communities. When reviewing charts I recognized an area that a patient lives in. I chose to use this patient who I will call Alex to focus the Ecoscan on. Alex is a sixty-six year old Caucasian, single male. Alex is an only child and his parents are elderly. His mother has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and is living in a senior home. Alex has been diagnosed as schizoaffective and suffers from severe anxiety. Alex has been hearing voices for more that forty years and these voices tell him that there are hit men trying to kill him. Alex is on Medicaid/Medicare which is accepted at the hospital. There are also many providers in the area that accept his insurance. If Alex did not have health insurance, then his options would be limited. The closest clinic that offers a sliding scale fee for services is twenty minutes away in Rhode Island.
Attleboro Public Transportation
There is a GATRA bus system available for public transportation to get around town. A one way ticket costs one dollar and a one day pass with unlimited bus rides is three dollars. The bus leaves every hour, however the last bus leaves at 6pm. Public transportation is limited if you are working nights or a late shift. There is a commuter train available that goes into Boston and the fee is $12.75 one way. Alex relies on cabs for transportation and there are a couple of companies to decide on from in the Attleboro area.
