I ready myself for the wave I know is coming. We have failed this level countless times. In all fairness, Arachne’s Revenge is a hard game, but I never could have prepared myself for this. Do you know the myth of Arachne? Arachne was a beautiful young lady that challenged the goddess Athena to a weaving competition. She claimed that her work was far superior to anything the gods could do. Athena won the contest and transformed Arachne into a spider, free to weave away at her web for the rest of her life. In our game, the spiders are rebelling and trying to become human again so they can overrule the gods that condemned them. Level 9 is set in a school building. Part of the quest, besides fighting the spiders, is protecting the students and teachers that are trapped in the school with us. I hold my breath as Finch slaps the button and the flood begins. Suddenly, an idea comes to me. “Finch - the kitchen! It’s still functional, right?” She shrugs but opens the door anyways. We frantically scout around for something to use. Throwing onion rings at the spiders probably won’t help us much. The huge oven gives me an idea. I toss a heat resistance potion at Finch, and understanding dawns in her eyes. I down one myself and turn the oven on full blast. The first wave of arthropods vaporize almost instantly, and the second wave of (much larger) spiders fares about as well. The third wave is much more resistant, but their health bars deplete quickly and they too crumble into ashes. We cheer and high five, but our victory is short-lived. A huge spider, anger in its eight beady eyes, tears the fuse box out of the wall with its pincers. The lights cut out along with the oven’s power, but luckily the windows are wide enough to provide
