Throughout the years, I have reflected on my changes, however, one interest that has always remained is visual art. Even though I have no current plans of pursuing visual art as a career, understanding my character would be difficult without including the relationship I have with art.
My interest began at a young age and my love for art has never dwindled to this day because it serves as a way to express my emotions and thoughts when words are not enough. Furthermore, it is a way to relieve stress and a method to escape reality by allowing someone to manifest his/her own fantasy into a reality. I continue to produce art and polish my own skills on a daily basis, whether it be a professional piece or doodle in my notebook. Developing an art style over the years and seeing personal improvement gives me a sense of pride because of what I can accomplish.

I grew up with a paintbrush in one hand and a pencil in the other, and I own more art supplies than A.C.Moore. In high school, I have chosen studio art as my elective every year, and I have had four projects selected for Spring-Ford’s annual art show. In one of my favorite pieces, I incorporated music by drawing hands playing a piano in white charcoal on black paper. Undoubtedly, art has always been an inspiration for me to be more creative in my everyday life; similarly, art allows me to exercise my imagination to the fullest extent. It is unfortunate that society is lacking this originality today, as creativity is directly intertwined with innovation. For me, this concept definitely applies, and thus I believe that art pushes me to seek experiences outside of my comfort zone. More specifically, I recently participated in Ottawa’s Young at Art competition, where I submitted an original piece of artwork.…

Throughout this course I have gained more of an appreciation for artwork and the artists that create them. I have also gained an appreciation for the people that try to define what art is in general or more specifically what makes good art. We have read great thinkers and their philosophies on this, and the fact that even people of such great intelligence can disagree on the subject proves how challenging it can be. By reading the opinions of these great thinkers, and by discussing their thought with our class, I feel I am in a much better place as to define what makes good art myself. I define art as anything created by someone that inspires another to appreciation.…
