Let's start with the basics of what aquaponics is. Aquaponics is a practice of gardening that includes fish. The fish live in a fish tank. They eat, poop and pee in the water. The water waste is pumped to a grow bed with plants. The soil is stone or similar material know as media. The media filters and oxygenates the water. The cleaned water returns to the fish. Now, this part is vital, in the media, lives bacteria that process the fish waste (ammonia) and turns it into plant food (nitrogen and nitrite). The technical terms for this process is called a recirculating, closed loop, symbiotic system that creates a sustainable relationship that provides produce and harvestable fish. This symbiotic relationship in a close loop system, uses less space, creates less waste and use of resources compared traditional agriculture, hydroponics and fish
