APUSH Reflection Essay

Actually, I am still in the most challenging academic course I have taken to date, AP United States History (APUSH). APUSH has been difficult for me due to the fact that I had very little knowledge of US history preceding my enrollment in the class. Furthermore, prior to this class I had never really had to study extensively to maintain high marks. APUSH has been different. Having little knowledge of this material, I have had to spend much more time studying. Along with the required course work and studying that I do every night I have been using supplementary tools that have helped me gain an edge on the course. For instance, instead of just reading the textbook which I do anyways, I read in depth explanations of the chapters from APUSH teachers …show more content…
The Indiana Academy would be an appropriate educational opportunity for me for two main reasons. First and most importantly the academic opportunities available at the Academy are astounding and I feel they would suit me well. Currently I am taking three AP classes at my high school and my favorite class I am taking this year is AP Physics, however there is no AP Physics C or AP Physics 2 at my school. Furthermore there are not very many AP or difficult classes at all at my high school. This is majorly frustrating as it hinders my education in comparison to other students in the country who have access to advanced classes. The story is completely different at the Academy, there are so many more AP and intriguing classes in general such as AP Computer Science which is a class that if I am accepted into the Academy I would love to take as one of the majors I would like to study in college is Computer Science. The second major I would like to study in college would be Physics in particular quantum mechanics. This being said my current high school offers little in the way of reaching these majors especially at the prestigious universities that I wish to attend. The second reason the Indiana Academy would be a proper educational opportunity for me is that it would help prepare me sufficiently for college life. I intend to attend a rigorous college after school with my top three choices being in no particular order MIT, Stanford, and Carnegie Mellon. This being said the Academy would be advantageous in prepping me for the intense college experience I wish to partake in. It would be advantageous in two major facets. First the course work at the Academy is scrupulous and this would help me prepare for the challenge of such a tremendous magnitude college experience as aforementioned. Secondly living with a roommate would be extremely beneficial as sometimes, as I often find is the case for myself, interactions with peers can be just as challenging if not, more

INTRODUCTION Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have been and are critical drivers of social mobility and social change in the Black community. Since their founding they have had missions to provide access and opportunity for Black people when they were excluded or denied admittance elsewhere. Today, HBCUs continue close the societal and economic gaps that exist for Black people in America. HBCUs represent just three percent of institutions of higher education, enroll less than ten percent of African Americans in higher education, but graduate more than 17 percent of African American bachelor degrees and more than 24 percent of African American bachelor degrees in STEM fields (NCES, 2016).…

This is an excellent way to take as many college classes in high school as I can so I can enjoy college and have an easier experience once enrolled as a full-time student. On the 1st day of AP English class all you heard was the clock barely ticking, sweat coming off of the teacher forehead and the students taking out paper and writing utensils to take notes on what we need. What stood out was Mrs. Fantroy’s strong voice along with the books that were shown for everyone to read that semester. The books looked like they could have come from out of ancient tombs or something. She had at least two lengthy looking books. She stated, “These are just some books for you guys to read just this semester.…

Before the summer of my sophomore year, I had not thought about my post high school plans beyond knowing I would like to attend college. However, I attended a STEM camp at Valparaiso University in Indiana where I met former astronaut and Naval Academy graduate, Ken Ham. He inspired me to not only begin my own flight training, but to start investigating the Naval Academy. The more I learned about the Naval Academy and the different opportunities that serving as an officer in the military presented, the more determined I became to attend. I understand that the decision to attend a service academy is not to be taken lightly.…

Everyone hates English class is what I thought before taking English 102. However, that may have been the case before I entered Dr. Byrd’s domain, but after finishing the class I have come to the realization that English class can be greatly resourceful. English 102 this year has had its ups and downs, and I must admit the ups outweigh the downs. Meaning, this year, I have learned that I am not a student who wants to read or write, but through reading and writing my mind and skill sets concerning English have grown. During English 102 this year, reading and writing in class helped me expand my writing skills, improved my will to comprehend, and most importantly helped expand my knowledge.…

When I began studying at the University of Montevallo, I had a background of high school creative writing and English classes, and one summer of a college English class. To be honest, I was terrified of jumping into my fall English 102 class. I felt I was unprepared for a serious college level composition class, and that I would have a strenuous time adjusting to a four-year university. However, as I walk away from my English 102 class I carry the understanding of writing a college level essay, undertaking research and completing a research and argument paper properly, and knowledge to prepare me for my other classes and profession.…

I expected the difficulty of the material to be harder as this was a college course, but I anticipated taking the same approach I had taken to study as previous history courses. I thought I would go to a lecture, take notes, read the textbook, and memorize the information to be reiterated on the test. However, I quickly learned that this was not going to be the typical history lecture I envisioned. On the first day of class when I heard it was a lab initially I was confused,…
