The first few days of school are always the toughest, the lack of insight a student may have on the teaching methods and format of the class can be overwhelming. Fortunately, there are facilitators, such as yourself I might add, that make the transition quick and easy. With that, I am eager to start this course and am ready to learn and better grasp the topic of US history.

Like many of your APUSH students, I suspect, I am a Junior currently attending Las Lomas High School. As a student for about 11 years, I can honestly say my learning process is ever-changing and improving as time passes. I think of myself as a capable and responsible individual. Learning is an essential way of life, to do anything in life you have to learn and be taught.

Zinn and Greene – Compare and Contrast The American Revolution has been hailed as a turning point in the history of Americans. Some educators use the American Revolution as an example of American willpower, and how America won’t stand for being abused or oppressed in any way. Others might have a different idea of what the revolution represents to them. The majority of the literature students read on the American Revolution tell a story of how America gained its independence through their pure convictions and craving for freedom, but the fact of the matter is that this is only one interpretation of the revolution.…

After having taken History 2700, I’d like to say that I will be a much more informed and better American citizen because of it. I have always loved history and so many of the things in this course were not too shocking for me, that being said, I still feel as if I learned several things. I enjoyed that this class focused less on dates and names and more on the significance, meaning, and later results of the historical events discussed. One area of history I knew very little about was the vast colonization of the the America’s before the British even established Jamestown. I found it very interesting and informing to learn about the early colonies of the Spanish and the French.…

This past year, I created an annotated syllabus for teaching a two part United States history survey course at Arizona State University. The first portion of the annotated syllabus covered teaching American history prior to European arrival up to Reconstruction. The latter portion of the annotated syllabus covered teaching from Reconstruction up to and including the present. Both sections of this project were designed to cover a fifteen week time frame each. When combined, the syllabus detailed thirty weeks of instruction.…

My responsibility for this workshop was to proceed with a handover of a patient to an intern (played by Dr. Michael Adamson). This was a particularly disasterous session. My performance was not only unfit within the scope of academic criteria, but was clearly short of acceptable for a real-world SBAR. During the reading of the scenario I was daunted by the task of having to SBAR report a patient to admission at a hostpital, based on information I was reading for the first time; my practice with the hand-over system was minimal prior to the session.…

Since Westward expansion launched into uncharted territory, it was met with divided responses from those occupying the soil between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. With each land gain, came new triumphs but also new perils and devastation. Consequently, anyone with a true understanding of the West will view the extension of America with both pride and guilt. However, those educating lower grade levels, will rarely recognize the latter of those two sentiments, and truly dive into the intimate details of the ever-moving frontier. As a result of this, I entered this course with a rather inaccurate understanding of the West, which was more aligned with the mythic depiction of the territory.…

Through the years, numerous abolitionists worked fervently trying to free the enslaved peoples and end slavery. To some extent, they were successful in spreading the word against slavery. Unfortunately, many lost their lives while fighting for their cause because it was something different and most people back in that time did not like change at all. At least their work was not done in vain; their accomplishments were one of many issues that became a springboard for the federal government to pursue the Civil War (Shultz, 2104). Prior to the start of the Civil War the slaves were fighting for their freedom through unorthodox means.…

When I walk into a room I have to make sure that my demeanor and vocal tone are palatable, or risk being profiled and seen as a danger to those around me. When I see law enforcement, I have to automatically start accessing all of my actions of the day to make sure I did not break some law or raise my voice to high.
