Even though there are many objections against Roosevelt that are true, Roosevelt should be elected because of his Three R’s, Relief, Recovery, and Reform. Roosevelt helped elevate public anxiety during the bank crisis, increase employment rates, and helped restore agricultural prosperity. Roosevelt should be elected because of his ability to relieve the public during the bank crisis. This goes against Landon’s perception of Roosevelt threatening national bankruptcy and uncontrolled spending (Document 2). Roosevelt wanted to fight the Great Depression and he did this with the New Deal and its many programs and acts. The first thing he did was declare a bank holiday so that he could control the banks. Roosevelt should be elected because of his efforts to pull the nation out of the Great Depression. The measures that FDR took during his first term in the White House didn’t produce prosperity. But they were able to pull the country out of depression and make sure that millions of people were better off than they had been when they were. In document 3i, it shows how high the number of jobs went when Hoover was elected and the stock market crashed. When FDR was elected during his first term, that number was 12.3 million and decreased to 9.3 million over the span of 4 years. Roosevelt did this by creating jobs for the unemployed like forestry, flood prevention work and other New Deal programs like CCC, AAA, etc. He wanted immediate recovery while setting long-term goals. Roosevelt should be elected because of the recovery from the Great Depression. He helped restore agricultural prosperity. The Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA) was a major New Deal program to restore agricultural prosperity by curtailing farm production, reducing export surpluses, and raising prices.
