April And Hercules Essay On Identity

Identity can be defined as the fact of being who or what a person is. This being, it is exceedingly important to identify and maintain our personal identity. Although this is important, many people struggle to find their specific identity, and often find themselves searching for it. Two characters that can be identified for being on this type of journey are Hercules and April. Being that Hercules and April both go on this “identity journey”, they have many similarities. In both of the films, April and Hercules first identify what is normal, and that they are not. April looks around and notices that she has a different mask, in a sea full of people with colored masks that correspond to their personality. Hercules notices that he is the only …show more content…
Hercules fights to gain back his god-like power and be a god again. Meanwhile, April decides to be a leader and take off her mask. Hercules is proving everyone wrong, while April decides to set an example for others. April wants to escape the prison she is trapped inside, while Hercules embraces his identity and sets off on a mission. These are just a few of the diversities that these two characters share. Even though these characters are both alike and different, they can be a great example for students to learn from. Whether you are on a journey to embrace your identity or trying to find it, you can learn from both of these characters to never give up. Hercules knew he was different, so he decided to embrace it, seek out a god, and prove everyone wrong. Someone who knows their true identity, but are maybe hiding behind a mask, can learn from Hercules to never give up and embrace who you truly are. April knew her mask was different, but she decided to stop hiding and show people who she truly was. If someone is struggling to find their identity, they can learn from April to be who they truly are and not to hide behind a mask.
