Veterans many times keep what they see during combat to themselves rather than sharing their stories with others. “For most people in combat, experiences range from the best of times to the worst of times” (pg. 81). Junger later explains that not letting veterans’ expresses their true feelings only hinders them. That they should be allowed to share their feelings on a day dedicated to them, Veterans Day. He states that some may say their experiences were the best thing to ever happen to them yet others may be so upset for what they endured they won’t make sense.…

I am writing to thank you for your service to the United States and wish you a happy Veterans Day. The magnitude of your selflessness and courage is incomprehensible to me, and though these may be trite words, I sincerely mean what I say. I can think of no experience more inherently laudable and worthy of profound respect than serving in the armed forces. What compounds my gratitude of your service specifically is your modesty in discussing your service. Indeed, I believe you mentioned your service only once or twice in class.…

For veterans, sacrifice is a constant in their lives, be it the sacrifices they make at home, to leave their family and friends behind them for their country's sake, or on enemy lines, when they're selflessly putting their lives at stake for us. They become veterans because of their patriotism, their dedication to those around them, the pursuit of freedom, and for their beliefs. Everything this country is built on is protected by veterans’ blood, sweat, tears, and hard work. These sacrifices and their work are what make veterans so important. They pledge their lives to ensuring our safety and well-being, and when they come home, there is nothing to distinguish them from an everyday person.…

citizen will fail to not only recognize but to also appreciate the true extent to which former and current service members incessantly choose to dedicate their own as well as their family’s entire way of life for the continued protection of the nation in which they share a home. Furthermore, Americans continually fail to realize the immense importance in which both these truths hold as well as the potential consequences they may possess. The United States first presidential leader and perhaps most prestigious war general to date, George Washington once said, “the willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation”. This description of veteran treatment post war time efforts has recently become more of a disturbing reality throughout our country. Negative connotations are continuously being applied to the service of men and women across the globe due to insufficient care for them and their families.…
