1. Discuss the development of your interest in nursing; how your background and experience played a part in this development.
Coming from a city where many are medically uninsured and underinsured, such as my family, I can empathize with what it is like to wait hours and not receive the best of service. My interest in nursing came from the desire to prepare myself and give quality care to areas alike. Above all, what sealed me to pursue nursing was experiencing the death of my grandparents all within a week. My grandmother fell in a care home, which led to being in and out of the hospital and unfortunately leading to her passing. A week later, my grandfather died as he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s when I was a child. Throughout all the years, I had always been unfamiliar about his dementia. An individual who encouraged me into studying nursing is my PUC alumnus brother. His four years as a nurse has genuinely turned him into a role model for my younger sibling and me. He has driven me to emulate his actions by pursuing nursing at PUC myself and furthermore, to be the first in my family to receive a bachelor’s degree. From already attending here my first year, this school has given me close engagement with my classmates, and ultimately gifted me with faith shaping friendships, personal guidance and superior education. It is comforting to know, with given acceptance that I have the support of God, my brother and my friends through my studies. It would cause me a great sense of gratitude to be a part of Pacific Union College’s nursing program.
