In my everyday life things occur in which at times I cannot explain “how” nor “why” they occurred. Most of the time I become frustrated and simply let the situation take control of my emotions. I do not think of ways of making them better I simply say “forget it”. Applying logic and thinking of ways of making things better or making things work and coming up with a solution is using the Scientific method. The scientific method enables us to observe, ask questions, develop a hypothesis, test your hypothesis, observe the results, come to a conclusion about your hypothesis and report your findings (Hess, 2007). As I am driving to work I hear a small ding noise come on. I look down and realize that I am low on gas. My job is approximately 4 miles …show more content…
My breakfast usually consist of coffee, oatmeal and toast. I start with the coffee first then the oatmeal. I usually save the toast for last. After I leave the oatmeal on really low I start the toast. I put in two slices and pull the lever down. I stir the oatmeal and serve it and then I serve the coffee. I set them down on the table and go back to the toaster when I realize it was not toasting my bread. I wondered what happened, why was my toast not done, was the toaster burned out? I thought maybe it was broken or it was just unplugged. I checked to see if the toaster was plugged or was the toaster just burned out. I check to see if the toaster is plugged which it was not therefore I plugged it in and made my toast. Using the scientific method which was recognizing the problem which was that my bread was not toasted I questioned what could be wrong with the toaster, then I came up with a hypothesis which was that either the toaster was unplugged or it burned out. I then proceeded to test my hypothesis by checking if the toaster was unplugged which it was and therefore I came up with the conclusion to my problem which was simply to plug in the toaster. Had this not been the problem I would have had to either had to throw out the toaster or open it up and check that all the wiring is

I was having a fantastic season and batting fifth in the lineup. In one particular game, I hit back-to-back homeruns and my confidence was at an all time high. However, then at the halfway point in the season, I hit a horrible slump.…

This latter method, however, is terribly inconsistent with the nature of science. That being, of course, that “science is a state of mind. It is a way of viewing the world,” (Angier, 19) through which one can learn more about the workings of his or her own life. This is quite similar to the game of Mastermind, which was played in ISP and which Scott Strobel uses as an analogy for the way science works. Save cases of pure luck, it is essential to exercise critical thinking techniques—scientific techniques—in order to be successful within the game.…

When we first were signing up to choose our topics, I chose baking because I like to simply bake. I thought that there could be some chemistry involved due to heat in the oven changing food from liquid to solid. I was so wrong. Even though the oven and heat portion plays a major factor, a good portion of the real chemistry lies in the ingredients we use to make such delicious dessert treats and our different breads. From the ten different sources I looked up previously, for the Annotated Bibliography portion, I found that each of the websites say roughly the same thing.…

In biology, scientists use the scientific method in order to arrive at a scientific conclusion. The first step in the scientific method is making observations. Next, a hypothesis should be formulated in support of the observations that were made. Once a hypothesis has been developed, it should be tested. If the hypothesis is supported by the test, then it is advised that the test is repeated several times to be sure that it definitely supports the hypothesis.…

Rationalism and Empiricism ; focussing on Rationalism When we do somethings whose results are known to us, like throwing an object in the air, so we know that it will fall back on the ground, How can we say this? Is it because we’ve seen things fall if we toss them up in the air or is it because of us learning some laws of physics ( the gravitation law ) The above example shows Empirisicm and Rationalism in the respective cases. This has been a famous argument in philosophy for a long time. There are two categories of people, the first are the empiricists that claim that our ideas or knowledge is based and gained from our own experiences and the information gained through our senses.…
