Applied Behavior Analysis Application Essay

I have indulged myself in its entirety into the applied behavior analysis field over the last year. After graduating with my psychology degree, I was clueless on what to do next. I began a job on the children’s unit of Devereux; an intensive residential treatment facility. I felt so much joy in making those kids day. Interacting with them in a positive light as much as possible. Being there to guide them and help them get through some of their darkest times. But, as I worked there I always found myself interested in more. My first interaction with the board certified behavior analyst of our unit had me hooked. That is when I began my career as an applied behavioral analysis therapist. Spending every single day helping children with autism and their families, I felt confident and passionate about my what I was living for, and I knew that was it for me. I decided then that I wanted to dedicate my life to helping those with autism live their life to the fullest despite their autism. It no longer looked like a limitation to me, only a part of who they were. I began to see the progress in my clients and realized how amazing it was to help these families achieve simple daily tasks with ease that previously seemed impossible. I again was constantly asking my direct BCBA questions, wanting to know everything the job entailed, and how I could learn everything possible from them! After over two years in the ABA field as a registered behavior technician, I feel surer of my future than I ever have; that becoming an expert in behavioral analysis is what I was meant to do with my life.
