Application Of Grace And Mercy Essay examples
Mercy and grace are two key terms used when describing God’s character. We know that His mercy and grace are made know in Jesus Christ. Hebrews 4:14-16 (New International Version), tells us that Jesus is the Son of God, he can empathize with our weaknesses, and although he was tempted, he never sinned. It then states “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Although mercy and grace often are used interchangeably, one should know that there is a difference between the two.
Theological Definition: Grace In the theological aspect of grace, it is the unmerited favor of God towards man. It is given to us although we do not deserve it. Some religions believe that the way to heaven can be earned through good deeds. Christians know that this is not so. We are not given God’s grace by our actions or who we are. We are given God’s grace because he is God. His grace cannot be earned. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast (Ephesians 2:8-9, NIV). In simple terms grace is mankind getting what we do not deserve. Grace is a divine quality that is attributed to God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit.
