While fellowships at school might not seem like CSR as schools are not necessarily ‘corporate’, I view the university as an organization that has much more impact in terms of value and engagement with the society. In tune with the triple bottom line approach, my engagement with the Hill CDC impacted people and planet not only by creating value for Hill CDC and the hill district, but for the college as well in terms of image and ensured a continued relationship with the Hill CDC as well.
Over the course of my internship at Etix, I actively took part in a CSR initiative in addition to my duties as an intern. Since attending Spelman College, I have evolved as a person mentally and socially, especially in my efforts regarding volunteering and the production of social change. Before attending Spelman and joining Lady Buds, a mentoring program for young underprivileged girls, I understood to a degree, how social change impacts people and their communities. However, after being a part of Lady Buds, my understanding of social change vastly increased, specifically how it affects the communities within Atlanta and on a larger scale our society. Upon entering Spelman college, I knew I wanted to be involved with a mentoring group, and while there was a multitude of groups to choose from, I decided on Lady Buds because their mission statement resonated with my goal before entering Spelman College.…

One of the first task that I undertook as the president of the UCLA’s Mortar Board Honor Society was to reinstate our chapter’s academic scholarship program. The large scope of the project required me to exercise fiscal responsibility and employ innovative methods to reach our fundraising goal of 1000 dollars. While keeping up with my academic and research responsibilities, I applied for multiple grants to fund our community service projects. By delegating tasks such as sponsor recruitment to specific members, I ensured that everyone felt an integral part of this project. Thanks to grant fundings and rigorous outreach, we actually surpassed our fundraising goal.…

According to the author of “Why Companies Can No Longer Afford to Ignore their Social Responsibilities,” “70% of young Millennials, those ages 18 to 26, say a company’s commitment to the community has an influence on their decision to work there” (68). This furthers the argument of how CSR can allow people to truly do something they enjoy and can let employees/consumers positively impact society. Employees and the audience of a company can feel good about themselves if they support companies who promote good for the community. However, it is evident that corporate social responsibility is mostly used to help provide advantages to the company rather than to actually help the people.…
