On completion of my secondary school education in Lagos, Nigeria, and while waiting for my undergraduate admission into the university, I sometimes watched/ assisted my dad whenever he was preparing project proposals or actually executing building construction projects. I didn’t know it as at then, but I think that was when I started having this unconscious attraction toward anything that had the word project written next to it. Any mention of the word project and my ears would be on alert. My education and life experiences over the years have gotten me to this point, where I am excited to be applying for a Master of Science (MS) degree program in Technology Project Management.
I can recall my first group assignment during my undergraduate days in the university. It was an engineering workshop project where I was the leader of my group and we fabricated a cooking stand used in most rural households in Nigeria. We had an ‘A’ in the project and I remember that we had to work as a team to get the right kinds of materials and construct the cooking stand down to the exact specifications. At that point, I had begun to understand the concept

I have had to ‘make a fresh start’ in a system that is different from the one I grew up in. I took up various odd jobs in order to stabilize myself and I now work as a correctional officer. But that’s not where I want to end up in. I have enjoyed working in a project management environment in the past and I intend to work in this area in the future. Being faced with the challenge of living in a new environment empowered my desire to learn and strengthened my self-belief and perseverance. I am excited about the prospect of returning to higher education and completing a master’s degree to the best of my abilities. This would enhance my current academic level with advanced and newer knowledge professional

During and after the group project I got a better understanding of NAVAL and a better understanding of my group. For example, Lexi is the leader of the group and Camille is the worker bee meaning that she is the one to go to for the information about the presentation. There were many high points in the group such as when we completed are power point early and when we researched the information. I had a blast working with them. A low point was when the video couldn’t load and we had to start from scratch again.…

We formed the group of four people promptly and waited for the topic to be assigned. The topic was assigned in week 9, while in other courses we knew all our topics for group assignments from week 3. Not only the topic for group project was assigned late, but I never had a chance to see the marking rubric and, therefore, to know the instructor’s expectations about my work. Despite the tight deadlines, our group equally divided the workload among four people and started to research the literature about the topic.…

I believe in applying knowledge to innovate and challenge the obstacles that are holding back the advancement of science. As such, a lab-based research thesis will give me the opportunity to critically think and apply what I learned so far academically and professionally to find solutions to the unanswered questions that lie at the scientific frontline. This experience will also allow me to further develop skills that will help me advance and excel towards my career in clinical research and medicine. Specifically, my interest in Dr. Matthew Holahan’s lab stems from my genuine interest in researching about concussions. My interest in concussion research started while preparing a literature review for NEUR3200 and later a poster presentation…

In my two quarters taking this studio, not only have I learned technical skills, I have also learned how to interact with groups better, give a professional presentation, and deliver my ideas to a client. After initially reading the Geography of Nowhere, I felt much more confident in my understanding of why buildings and structures are built where they are in present day America. Coming from the geography department to this class, it was slightly surprising that I had never come across this book in either my social or physical geography classes. Kunstler does a great job of explaining the history of planning, zoning and the general built environment that went into creating modern day United States of America. Although I had taken Introduction…

After watching the presentation on team work and being in groups, it taught me the things that are necessary in order for a group to be successful. In order to be successful in a group, the group needs to plan everything out in advance, they need to communicate, and have a leader who can take the initiative. Notably when watching the presentation some of the observations I recognized included planning everything within the first two meetings. Throughout the presentation they did not say which member received which roles, or even set a proper meeting time.…

I worked in a group with four other people, not only did this experience help me understand, as most group work does, how to work with diverse individuals and ideas but also how topics such as the one we chose, gender identity in public schools, have developed over time. This project highlighted for me how issues today have been impacted by historical beliefs, ideologies and experienced their own ecological system of development. Gender identity was initially seen as an illness to be cured and hidden, then slowly the ideas shifted to be included in the DSM as a diagnosis and I feel now slowly shifting away from the concept of having to conceptualize gender identity and towards the acceptance of diversity. The project was a great way to see…

Reflection Paper II Throughout my college experience here in the Carroll School of Management, group work and the ability to work well with others has been emphasized greatly. This makes sense, because in a professional environment, the ability to communicate, listen and contribute within a group leads to success and the achievement of goals. However, none have gone on as long as this project, making it a more realistic example of working on a team. Junior year of college is definitely a crazy time, as we are forced to balance heavy workloads with extracurriculars and recruiting.…

Introduction In this reflection, I will focus on some important topics such as, what I learned about individual and business taxation from this course, what was my experience with the group project and what were the challenges that I faced during both the group project and this course. I am also going to add some main overall points that I learned. Tax is generally an amount of money that is charged by a government on a product, income, or activity so that it can pay for public services. In addition, there are several very common types of taxes: • Income Tax (a percentage of individual or corporate earnings filed to the government) • Sales Tax (taxes charged on certain goods and services) • Property Tax (taxes charged on the value of land…
