Like many other immigrants, I realize that English is a barrier for me to achieve success. Actually, some of my relatives advised me that I had better find some basic jobs without requiring education than going to colleges because I cannot compete with native speaking students. This advice sounded reasonable to me, for I am not as young as most students and I have to work part time as well as study. I accept my weakness, but I refuse to let it discourage my ambition for learning and improvement. Learning is a process of continuous development, so I try my best and gradually progress.

Known as a college of Business and Economics and a quality quarter system, I believe East Bay is a bridge for me to achieve academic accomplishments, and a door to open my future career. For nearly four years in America, I value the importance of education and its guide to success, as Nelson Mandela once said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. With my enthusiasm, I decide to overcome obstacles and bring pride to my family. My Mom still lives in Vietnam, and I hope that she will be here with me in the near future to see my success. She is the support and the motive for my endeavor. Finally, I want to say to myself and other students: “Believe in yourself. No door is closed to you if you try
