Application Essay: A Career As A Baseball Player

I have a great passion for the sport of baseball. I need to perform at my highest ability so the team can play at their greatest potential. I need to push myself in order to play the best, which is why I set my goal: to push myself and become the best I can. For my goal, I want to become an all-conference baseball player for pitching. There are multiple reasons why I selected this goal. First, I love baseball. I wanted to pick a goal I had passion for. I want to play at a high level in baseball so I set a goal to push myself and hold myself accountable. Secondly, I want to become a better pitcher. My favorite position is shortstop, but I was told I was going to pitch a lot this summer. I love pitching too, and I set my goal to allow me to push myself to become a better pitcher. Lastly, this goal allows me to become a better baseball player overall, not just a pitcher. The goal pushes me everyday to hustle and try hard everyday. The first goal I need to reach is making varsity. I will need to make varsity in order to accomplish all my goals. Then, my second short goal is to start the first game May 23. Making the starting lineup will be a huge step in accomplishing my goal. By June 30th, my goal is to have at least five wins and an Earned Run Average (ERA) under 2.5. My final goal is to have more strikeouts than walks by the end of the season. These goals all can be proven statistically, but there are more goals I need to accomplish mentally. When I’m on the field, I need to try my hardest and hustle wherever the coaches want me. I need to go into every practice with the mentality of getting better, not just showing up.
