In the article “Apple chastised for unsafe working conditions in supplier factory”, reporters from CNET say that apple has vowed to try their best to improve working conditions, the excessive hours and overtime, and the low wages employees receive. With Apple slowly getting the messages of how they should improve their conditions to a positive state rather than a negative state, it’ll soon start benefiting the employees when they work around their working spaces and areas. Thanks to the Fair Labor Association, Apple is now required to keep updated information on their website of their working conditions, their hourly rates over time and work weekly, and their wages they give employees from the Foxconn factories when job duties are up and running, according to Courtenay Palis, from the article “Apple Publishes Data on Foxconn Working Conditions”. I also agree that Apple is acting unethically and irresponsible. They exploit workers to the utmost, and it is true that many corporations do it as well, nonetheless Apple is a leading corporation in innovative technology; therefore, they should behave more responsibly. I believe that organizations, such as RAN, will undoubtedly put a stop to Apple’s improper practice. Furthermore, I assume Apple cares about its workers, but they prioritize their customers, and therefore they feel a lot of pressure to come out with new products that will satisfy their customers. In order to do that, they must also manufacture an enormous amount of products.…

Most workers would work sixty hour weeks, having 10 hour work days. While one carpet-mill operator suggested that a sixty hour work week was “plenty of time for any man…” (source 1), many others believed they were overworked by at least 2 hours a day. Workers would undergo ten hour work days, which involved them standing on their feet the whole time, allowed only a five minute break, and using machinery that during the time was faulty. Due to these factors, there were several accidents…

I was really upset in the novel, The Sound of Butterflies, when Rodrigues recounted how Santos’ employees “tie them (the Indians) to trees and cut off their limbs…the company pretends to employ the Indians, but they are slaves.” This description is so graphic and it distressed me that Thomas and his companions were powerless to change how the Indians were treated. They could have helped if they were not Santos’ guests, or the Brazilian rubber tycoons were not so corrupt. This reminded me of the disturbing accusations against Foxconn, the company that owns Chinese Apple factories. It is alleged that workers regularly perform up to almost 3 times the legal overtime limit, are sometimes humiliated in front of fellow workers if performing unsatisfactorily,…

Companies in China like Foxconn manufacture many high-end products like PlayStations, iPhones, Samsung Galaxy phones, and much more known products. Many corporations are aware of how these employees are treated but they only act like they care but they know that if they try to find a new manufacturer or supplier that they will lose profit and supply. According to the authors Charles Duhigg and David Barboza “Privately, however, some former executives concede that finding new suppliers is time-consuming and costly” (Duhigg & Barboza 605). Another root of the problem is us the consumers, we demand new technology every year from these companies like Apple, and for example, most of us consider an iPhone dated if is older than two years old.…

What I’ve learned after reading two different articles on two different companies is that things haven’t changed that much in the last hundred of years. While in America, there are standards that have to be met to ensure the safety and wellness for the workers. In other countries, their regulations for factories are more lenient, resembling to the conditions of the Gilded Age with an exception of not being as extreme. Bigger corporations like Apple and Nike are having their goods produced in countries like China, Indonesia, and Vietnam so they can pay less for more work. Money makes the world go round and at the end of the day in the capitalistic America, everything boils down to how much profit you earn.…

This causes many issues for laborers working long hours to support their family. In personal opinion employees should not start a strike with service industries simply because they do not like the amount they are getting paid. Employees should understand that they are getting paid what they signed up for, they are working long hours as a personal choice, and they can further their education. Service industries are mainly looked upon as a side job and not a full-time career. Employees who work at such industries are very well aware of the amount they will be getting paid per hour.…

During a time of great economic disparity, the Roosevelt administration put into effect one of the most far-sighted labor laws in the history of the United States and rest of the world. Imagine sending your child of ten years into work at a mine to endure gruesome conditions and excruciating work for seemingly endless half day shifts. In America, this predicament was once commonplace. Nowadays, this atrocity is seemingly nonexistent thanks to the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, as amended (FLSA). The Roosevelt Administration enacted the law to set a ceiling on the hours of a workweek, a minimum floor under wage rates, and to ensure children can attend school and work in a safe, healthy environment.…

To begin, America does not give full credit to other country’s when it comes to their work industry. For example China, America pays China lower wages than an American gets paid. In the article “The Real Reason the U.S. doesn’t makes IPhone’s” a professor of clinical finance and business economics, Baizhu Chen wrote: “Buying from China is, In fact, Buying American.” Baizhu Chen explains how China allows the American companies such as Apple to hire high paid workers in America. In 2010, the Chinese were getting paid $2.00 an hour, while the Americans…

If Parmar were to address the manufacturing and the specific details of the wages earned by these employees, the reader would get a better image of Walmart 's cruelty.
