As you all know, there is an auction of several cars from the collection of Paul and Linda Griesse at the Apple Tree Auction house in Newark, Ohio this Saturday morning. It is on the same date as our fall quarter Tickin T Meeting. After consulting with several members we decided to try to combine events and have the meeting in conjunction with the auction. I have talked with Sam from Apple Tree and the car auction will take place between 11:00 and 2:00 at the auction house. Paul’s 6 T’s and his Model S Ford will be sold through that time along with many others, some are vintage cars. In today’s culture and society, many people will most likely value an expensive car over an ancient artifact. In other words, artistic objects with valuable meanings are less appealing than exotic goods or products to the average person. The short story The Safe, written by Tim Gautreaux demonstrates a situation in which a few workers in a junkyard discover a safe with a fancy sewing machine inside of it. With the exception of one character, Alva, the rest of them find objects with physical value more appealing than ones with artistic and sentimental value. The article that I chose this week was You Paid How Much For That Apple? In this article, Elizabeth Dunn discusses the reasoning behind the cost of Honeycrisp Apples compared to that of other apples. 20 years ago, David Bedford cross bred different apples and established what is known today as the Honeycrisp Apple. The Honeycrisp Apples were so good that they are known in today’s society as a “price phenomenon” compared to other apples on the market because of their great taste (Dunn, 2013). In perfect competition a market structure is described by numerous well-informed, independent sellers and buyers who trade equal products (Farnham, 2014). The City Farmer’s Market is a great example of perfect competition. Most Farmer’s Markets vend and price their products the same. Most farmer’s markets, like the City Market, advertise their business solely on the internet, but there are many signs downtown in Indianapolis advertising about it. The farmer’s markets have a great number of buyers and sellers vending the same products.…

In Allan Johnson’s book The Forest and the Trees, he notions that in order to understand the concept of social life, we have to not only look at the individual, but also at the environment the individual is placed and how they interact and create social systems.
