Apple Cider Vegar

The tart, tangy taste of apple cider vinegar (ACV) has been treasured since at least 400 B.C when Hippocrates first discovered the natural anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties that this inexpensive liquid contains. Not only can it kill germs, but it is good for your health! Many common household cleaners are full of toxic chemicals that can make people very sick and even lower their I.Q., but ACV is all-natural. Not all types of ACV are made the same though. Some are full of residual chemicals from apples that are sprayed with pesticides. Because of this, it is important to use an organic type of ACV instead. Read on for a list of ways that this commonly found salad dressing ingredient can help you around the house, the garden, and even the kitchen, while still saving you money.

1. Homemade Cleaner

Raw, unfiltered ACV has more anti-bacterial properties than other types of vinegar, which makes it the perfect all-purpose cleaner. To make it yourself, fill a clean spray bottle half full of ACV. Add water to fill it the rest of the way up. Put the sprayer lid on tightly, and give it a shake. Then, it is ready to go. This solution can be used to clean dirty ovens, windows, bathrooms, and counter tops. Though it initially might have a strong vinegar smell, this goes

An alternative to these toxic weed killers is to make your own natural version instead. All it takes is a few ingredients from the kitchen, and of course, ACV. In a one gallon container, such as a clean empty milk jug, pour in a half cup of salt, and one teaspoon of liquid soap for dishes. Then, fill the remainder of the container up with ACV. Give it a shake to mix up the ingredients, and it is ready to use. It will kill any plant that it is poured onto, so be sure to not put it too closely to plants that you want to keep. This recipe can be adjusted to make less or more, depending on how large your garden

In Iona Creek Reserve, weeds were located around the grassy area. This is a major issue, not just because weeds are an invasive and fast growing species, but also because there are endangered plants located on the site. The Blue Gum High Forest is the main endangered species on the site. This forest sheltered the Sydney region before European settlement, and is now limited to small bushland along a small range of suburbs in Sydney. The Blue Gum Forest is one of six main indigenous communities of Sydney and listed as critically endangered under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act), and an endangered ecological community in NSW under the NSW Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995 .…

Vinegar is biodegradable liquid that consists of about 5-20% acetic acid (CH3COOH), an active ingredient produced from the fermentation of ethanol. An international team of researchers from Venezuela, France, and the US reported that acetic acid can effectively kill mycobacteria, even highly drug resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis. According to Canada’s National Collaborating Centre for environmental health, the acid in vinegar crosses the cell membrane of bacteria and prompts a release of protons, which causes the cell to…

With a yard full of weeds, a lawnmower may seem like a quick and easy solution: it would cut the weeds down and trim the grass at the same time. However, mowing over garden weeds actually makes the problem worse; the roots of the weed remain in the Earth, only to grow back faster and stronger than before. At the same time, after the lawnmower glides across the yard and trims down the weeds, it spits the remains out to the side, which actually just spreads weed seeds, causing even more weeds to later pop up than before. While mowing over the yard seemed like a good solution to the weed problem, it actually backfired and makes the problem worse. This same scenario happened in the United States in the early 1920s when the prohibition of alcohol…
