Appendix A: Self-Reflection on Interview Assessment Through out this interview process I have learned to come prepared, be a S.N. as well as a real person and listen before you diagnose. It is important to come prepared by looking at the patient’s history or in this case their disease as well as the symptoms that are associated with the disease. I looked into the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder prior to the interview to provide the proper therapeutic communication. If I would not have come prepared, I may have touched the patient to provide comfort when it would have actually caused the patient more anxiety and distress. It is also important to be a S.N. as well as a real person. Prior to the interview, I wrote down the questions

Introduction The recorded interview was a tough assignment in my opinion, harder than what I thought it would have been. Being as to how I work in a clinical setting, interviewing patients I thought would have come naturally, however that was not the case. Although patients and peers have complimented me on my assessment skills, in this recorded interview I do not feel as though any of the skills I used came naturally. This could be due to the fact that I knew I was being recorded, or the mere fact that I interviewed a family member.…

Career Interview Analysis: Former TRiO Educational Talent Search Student Background The student I interviewed is a current second-year student at West Los Angeles College, studying computer science and engineering. Previously, he attended Susan Miller Dorsey High School and was a participant of the West Los Angeles College TRiO Educational Talent Search (ETS) program, which assists low-income/first-generation students with college and financial aid. Because serving low-income/first-generation students in outreach programs is what I currently want to do, I thought that Luis would be a good person to interview, since he was a product of the ETS program and is no longer in high school.…

Today at Simulation Lab I performed health history on a patient. Firstly, I commenced by preparing myself for the interview. Although I was nervous, as a nurse I had to be confident and prepare myself mentally and kept an open mind to meet the patient. In addition to preparing myself, I prepared the environment, making sure seating and arrangement was in place and the room was comfortable and private. Having done this, I utilized Florence Nightingale’s theory of environmental need.…

Self Assessment Analysis: Listening One major communication flaw of mine is my inability to listen to others at times. The idiom, “you have one mouth and two ears, so you should listen twice as much as you talk,” makes sense. However, it has been hard to implement this idea in my life. I have noticed in conversations that I sometimes “check out” and start thinking about other things, completely ignoring the person talking.…

Final Exam: Self Evaluation Essay I personally can say that I have seen an improvement in my writing since my initial evaluation in the middle of the semester. During my first evaluation I was very confused with many of the general concepts the class held and it reflected in my writing. Answering the questions presented in the midterm evaluation and reviewing my first writing assignment Meta commentary pushed me to try to grasp a better understanding of assignments and ask for more helpful feedback that would benefit me in developing writing especially in the concept of methods and organization. Slowly and surely as the rest of the semester progressed forward I saw an improvement in my writing style and content.…
