He is known as a kind, hard working man, a man ready for the battlefield. The love for his wife really brings out his true character. In Act 3, Scene 3 he tells Iago how he had rather not known about his wife’s affair and how Iago better have proof he can see or he didn't want to see his rage. In Act 5, Scene 1 Othello let all of Iago’s manipulations get the best of him. Othello killed his wife because of the many lies Iago told. In Act 5, Scene 2 Emilia, Iago’s wife, tells Othello that Iago has been deceiving him the whole time. With Othello being so innocent, easy going, very trusting, and naive. Iago was able to play with Othello’s mind throughout the entire play. He included everyone in his sabotages and leads them to believe he is actually doing everyone favors, when he is actually backstabbing them and making things worst for everyone. Shakespeare uses many literary devices to tie the theme together. He uses symbolism with the handkerchief given to Desdemona. When Iago gets it he is able to really play with Othello’s mind. Shakespeare also uses conflict, now that Othello believes his wife is having an affair with Cassio he is furious and wants them both dead. That changes his character because he is supposed to be loving and his wife is supposed to be his everything. The last literary device he used is euphemism when Othello wanted to kill Cassio.
