Appeals In Advertising

There are many different types of appeals in the advertising world such as appeals to authority, snob appeal, and repetition. Each appeal is used differently to capture a viewer’s attention long enough for them to purchase a product or attend an event that is being promoted. For composition, each student randomly selected a school event to advertise to the public and I drew boys’ track out of the basket. My project, as well as everyone else’s, involved creating a three minute long commercial, print advertisement, and a justification essay. In both my commercial and advertisement I chose to appeal to emotion since our target audience was parents. I also used many different colors and different manipulation of images and words to gain the viewer’s attention and ensure that parents encouraged their children to join boys’ track. For my advertisement, I began by choosing a main color that suited what I was advertising. I chose the color red because it signifies passion and excitement, which are two emotions I wanted …show more content…
My story line tied together with my advertisement in the way that the track field could be a home for students and that their teammates could become their family. My video featured shots of track related objects and locations that one would see when they’re on the track team. The music set an emotional tone and I also had testimonials of boys who are on the track team. I attempted to use the word family throughout the commercial and during the team’s testimonials to reiterate the idea that the track team is like a family. I also used Coach Steffens’ testimonial to cement the biggest reasons to join the track team. My whole objective was to show potential track members the kind of environment and people they would encounter if they joined the team.
