First, Hera and Zeus were married and had three children; Ares, the god of war; Hebe, a perpetually youthful beauty; and Eileithyia, the goddess of childbirth. Zeus had an affair with Leto who he impregnated with Apollo. Hera became very jealous and banned Leto from giving birth to her unborn children on Earth. This caused Leto to have to go to the island of Delos, since it wasn’t attached to the Earth and was floating in the sea, to give birth to her twins. Artemis and Apollo were both born on the island of Delos and were all rewarded by being connected to the Earth underwater. According to Homer, who tells these stories, Apollo was one of the most respected and feared gods in Greek mythology. He also kept to himself, he didn’t like to associate much with other gods or mortals. Apollo only allowed people to communicate with him through his father Zeus, prophets, and oracles. Another story of Apollo is the story of him and Python. Python was a giant dragon who was destroying the villages in the area, laying waste on crops and poisoning springs. Apollo killed Python by using his arrows; which come from his archery trait. Gaia, the mother of Python was furious when she found out Apollo had killed her son. She ordered Apollo to serve King Admetus for nine years as a cattle herder to pay for what he did. In some other myths, it is told that …show more content…
He also has many stories throughout his life that show all his godly traits. Finally, there are many things in todays society that are in accordance to the name Apollo. Although the myths of Apollo have no factual basis, they still found a way to impact the society we live in today. Work Cited Page
