“The ancient astronaut theory all started in 1968, when Swiss researcher and author Erich Von Daniken published a book known as Chariots of the Gods, which became an immediate bestseller.” Within the book he put his hypothesis that, “‘the technology and religions of many ancient civilizations were given to them by ancient astronauts who were welcomed as gods” (Ancient Astronaut Theory). In the book he gives evidence and reasons as to why he believes in this theory, but one thing is wrong with all this. All the “evidence” stating that ancient astronauts visited earth, inspired human culture, and influenced human advancement; things such as cave paintings, stone artifacts, and ancient structures; it’s all just art and architecture, we have no…

Giving Hermes authority over herd animals is a substantial act of reconciliation, as it was the taking of Apollo's herd of cows that created friction between the brothers in the first place! After hearing Hermes play his song on the lyre he invented, Apollo decides to dismiss the wrongdoing and claims that Hermes' inventions are equivalent in value to the fifty cows that were taken (HH 4.434−437). Apollo praises Hermes' talent and even requests to be taught how to play the lyre, a great compliment to be given from the god of music! (HH 4.450−455). This demonstrates that Apollo sees reason to respect Hermes as an equal, on account of Hermes displaying expertise in a domain which he himself…

According to Gregory Moore's reading of Nietzsche, Apollo and Dyonisus represent simbolically two 'cosmic forces' which anticipates the vision of a 'broader' Will to Power operating in nature.43 In this respect, both the early and the late Nietzsche are consistent in seeing a Bildungstrieb operating in the cosmos shaping life toward higher forms of individuation, and in characterizing this 'drive' as artistic in nature.44 Therefore in both cases we find the same idea, that the force which leads us into forging our metaphysical framework is also something which grows out of the very essence of life. Thus, at no stage of the development of Nietzsche's thought we find a discontinuity between life and metaphysics. What changes is the fact that he considers his earlier description of this cosmic process as not 'sharp' enough.…

It is estimated by boxofficemojo.com that the famed Disney movie Hercules has generated $252,712,101 in revenue. However, the Greek myth, in which the movie was based on, is rarely purchased for reasons outside of academics. Perhaps this is the reason the heroic Heracles is now unrecognized unless his name is changed to Hercules, although this may have origins in the Roman version of the Greek myth. Despite the misinterpretation of the hero’s name, Disney did retain some features of the original greek myth. These include the role of faith, Heracles’ love interests, and some of the challenges faced by Heracles.…

A main aspect of Greek culture is the importance of family. Specifically, respecting and listening to the wisdom of the elders in a family is of utmost importance. This is a valuable lesson that is taught in the myth of Daedalus and Icarus. Apollo is the god of music, plague and prophecy while Hermes is the god of trade and thieves. They are both sons of Zeus as are half-brothers.
