During the Apollo Missions
What was the motivation that led to the discovery?
Since the First Mission of the Apollo, they noticed that the lunar dust moon caused problems on systems of the Extra-Vehicular Activities (EVA), because of the damage and the difficult circumstances they had to live and because of the effects of the dust they started an investigation of how they can protect their vehicles and the people of the harmful effects of lunar dust. They found that the principal problems were: “vision obscuration, false instrument readings, dust coating and contamination, loss of traction, clogging of mechanisms, abrasion, thermal control problems, seal failures, and inhalation and irritation.”
