Apollo Mission

There was a great motivation to have a man in space when Disney had a movie called “Man in Space” come out in the early 1950’s. President Eisenhower felt great pressure to have a space program, and would eventually start the Mercury program. With JFK taking office he had many poor public performances and needed to find something to show the USA was still a powerful country. JFK would announce that we would land on the moon within ten years.

With the Apollo missions they were able to detect that the lunar crust is thicker on the far side then on the nearside of the crust. Also that the moon’s center of mass was offset from the middle by about 2.5 km, from what was previous thought. They were able

Fifty-six hours into NASA’s third attempt to land on the moon, Houston radioed the spacecraft with a seemingly-innocent request. Following NASA’s instructions, the astronauts turned on the hydrogen and oxygen stirring fans in order to obtain more accurate readings. Two minutes later, an oxygen tank exploded. Electrical power and the altimeter readings began to fluctuate wildly. Communications were briefly lost.…

This evidence states that the astronauts brought back rocks from the Moon’s surface. ALL the scientists who examined the rock agreed that it was a rock from the moon. If all the scientists were trained Professionals (like I believe they would be) then those rocks must have been from the Moon. The fourth and final reason is my nineteenth piece of evidence. This evidence tells us that on the Moon’s surface you can actually see the Lunar Buggies tracks.…

The Apollo Program’s Unknown Savior The space race was a long and complicated time in history in which many people became well known for their contributions to science and the space race. One of the most well-known is JFK, but his Vice President, Lyndon Baines Johnson, was as much of a force in making the American space program great if not a greater force than the President. Although the space race isn’t officially considered to have started until 1957, the race actually began at the end of World War two.…

“Things do not happen. Things are made to happen,” is not only something John Fitzgerald Kennedy said, but also something that he followed. Kennedy was the United States of America’s 35th president. Although he was only in office for almost 3 years, many still believe he was an effective president and got much done in that time. Kennedy accomplished many things in his two years, which lead to his great success as a president, such as making the Peace Corps, instilling fitness programs in certain schools, and challenging the nation to win the race to space.…

America constantly seeks to be the global leader in every field on Earth, and following the Mercury and Apollo space programs it is was clear that America was at the forefront of that which was outside of Earth as well. Apart from more prestige and scientific knowledge through America’s triumph in the space race, a deeper connection between the individual and the grandeur of the cosmos become evident. Astronauts and spectators of the Mercury and Apollo missions gained a new perspective of their place in the universe and ideas as to what mankind’s new achievement meant to them. An analysis of the Mercury and Apollo space Programs reveals two limiting factors to the extent of spiritual transformation and religious implications the programs evoked:…

Most people don’t know who Michael Collins is. Renee Klahr from USA Today calls him "The forgotten astronaut", which unfortunately he is. Michael Collins was apart of the Apollo 11 space mission, which would end up holding the first man of America to walk on the moon. Michael Collins' job was to stay in the aircraft while the other two men (Armstrong and Aldrin). It was always a wonder to me what he felt like in those moments when his partners were going towards the moon…

America chose "to go to the moon in this decade, ... not because [it was] easy, but because [it was] hard." Was this really true? Some believe that there was never much thought put into the decision, and this explanation by President Kennedy was really a cop out that showed that his administration did not place any real thought into deciding whether or not to go to the moon. However, many explanations for the attempt to go to the moon are very compelling. One explanation was that America had to keep up with and surpass Soviet advances in outer space because of the Cold War.…

The topic that I chose was the space exploration with the Apollo moon landings. Well at the time there was great political turmoil in the world because of the cold war. Before the moon missions people had not ventured very far out into space, but president Kennedy gave a challenge to land on the moon by a certain time. They did not know exactly how they would accomplish this at the time but hundreds of scientists and engineers put in thousands of man hours in order to figure it out. They continued to refine their rocket designs until it was safe enough for people to ride in.…

Space Exploration: Apollo Missions I read the article entitled Where No Man Has Gone Before: A History of Apollo Lunar Exploration Missions. I learned so much and gained a greater appreciation for these explorers and experimenters, because without them, we wouldn’t have as great a knowledge of our universe as we do today. Many questions were and still are being asked about the size, and expanse of our universe and the galaxies which surround us. These questions are what led these men to travel to the moon and back; so that they could hopefully bring back answers for the rest of the world to hear.…

On September 12, 1962, president john F Kennedy delivered his “why we chose to go to the moon” speech at Rice University in Houston, Texas. The occasion of the speech was to address to the American people the importance of returning to space and being the first nation to place a man on the surface of the moon. Kennedy chose this time to deliver his speech because we were currently at the height of the cold war and the United States was beginning to lose the space and technological race against the Russian nation. Therefore Kennedy appeared at Rice University where he delivered his speech to a crowd that consisted of scientists, professors, students, and the general American people. The context that shaped Kennedys’ speech was the importance of mankind to achieve the near impossible feat of landing a human being on the surface of the moon and the profound impact that this accomplishment would have on the future of the human race.…
