After they were cleared the astronauts James A. Lovell, jack Swigert, and Fred Haise were able to go back to their home lives. Soon after Lovell, his crew, and the operations team of the Apollo 13 mission were awarded the Medal of Freedom by the 37 president of the United States of America, Richard Nixon (Orloff, Richard Par. 3).
