Further research shows, a small percentage of small children retain memories of traumatic experiences. There were two ways the researchers concluded if the child was likely to retain certain memories. One was if the child displayed emotion while describing the event and if the child was cohesive in his or her thoughts and could understand the complexity of the traumatic or eventful experience. One early traumatic experience I can recall; waking up and being shipped off to kindergarten. Furthermore, parents play a significant role in their child’s development.
