Apex Police Internship Report

Apex PD Internship Reflection Through my internship with Apex Police I got to experience things I never imagined being allowed to do as an intern. For this very reason I am so glad that I interned with a smaller agency rather than a large one like Raleigh or Durham. All the men in the department treated me very well, but I did experience tension with other females. They organized my internship in a way that I could experience the whole department. They had me go from records, to patrol, to traffic, to evidence, to persons crime, to property crime, to drugs and vice, and even to their SWAT team. Going through all the different sections of the department was my favorite, and I especially enjoyed doing ride alongs with patrol and doing stakeouts with the drug squad. Their station is brand new, but I do think that they could use some smaller substations around Apex. Apex is way bigger than I knew it was and we have a lot of annexed land, so they are in the process of adding a small station onto the fire department, but I believe they could use more than two stations. My experience interning with the Apex police department tied into many different things that I have learned in my Sociology and Criminology classes. One class I can really apply is my “Social Problems” class; in this class we have learned how individual problems come from a broader social problem. I could apply this when running calls in the ghetto of Apex, or when seeing fights in high schools because people tend to respond to the problems of their circumstances. Overall, I have truly enjoyed my time with Apex PD, so much that I am hoping to continue through the summer.
