Essay On Apathy In Education

In the current education system only 40% of high schoolers actually feel engaged in school(Institute of Play). This leads to cases of apathy within students as they progress throughout their day at school, and possibly into their jobs as seen in another statistic that only 30% of adults feel engaged in their workplace; however, organizations such as the Institute of Play and Quest to Learn are hard at work to solve the problem of the “crisis of disengagement”. Apathy in the education system causes far too many problems with students that either choose to cheat or just give up, and has been going on since the early days of education with young minds being unable or unwilling to handle the format of the education system. However, with the gamification of education it would become possible to grab the attention of a greater number of students as well as teach to individuals rather than to a group about the material greatly increasing the level of understanding students could have over any given subject due to the other students learning through the game. There are a number of organizations that seek to use gamification to its fullest extent in education leading to some amazing results such as the Institute of Play that created the Quest to Learn program that currently has some amazing statistics when compared with the national average, and are always seeking donations and for people to talk about the issue at hand and about them and the organizations and projects they support such as Quest to Learn. If the community at large can support these fine establishments, and gamify their own educational system we can help to cure the disease of apathy from the educational
