The Truth of the White’s Tragedy
In the movie Apartment 143, a ghost is haunting the main family and they hire a paranormal investigative team to stay there and help them rid the apartment of the demon. In the beginning of the movie we see the head investigator, Dr. Helzer, interview the father of the family, Alan White. Alan claims he believes the ghost is most likely is deceased wife, Cynthia. Alan tells us the story about how his wife died in the beginning, explaining how everyone loved her and that she was a great wife and coworker. Dr. Helzer is trying to get all the information out of Alan that he can to investigate further into the hauntings and the familial dynamic. As the movie progresses to …show more content…
Alan explains how she was a whore (1:00:50) and that he took his kids away from her so they didn’t see what she was doing, and at one point Caitlyn did see what she was doing (1:03:09). The story from his point of view leaves us believing that he took his kids away one night with him and Cynthia followed them, only to run into a tree on the side of the road (1:05:17). This was the scene of her death and where the original police report came from that Helzer used (59:51). This would have caused her to lose control and end up wrapped around the light pole when she was following them. Another possibility could be that Alan’s story was a complete lie and that maybe there were in the same car and drove into the pole only killing her and getting another car from an accomplice. This seems unlikely but it would have been consistent with Caitlyn’s claims during the séance (54:13). Another option, which may be more believable, would be that Alan ran her off the road. Caitlyn’s accusations that her father caused her mother’s death would be …show more content…
There is no direct evidence from the film that explicitly says so. The audience can piece together what really happened individually. It is hard to say what actually happened, but the theory that Alan ran Cynthia off the road seems to cover most of the bases with information taken from the movie. It builds upon Alan’s story and addresses the accusations of Caitlyn, where almost all the information comes from. Dr. Helzer probably came to a conclusion similar to this, after he took his time trying to use Alan’s interviews and watching him break down and give into the guilt that eventually led him to his outburst in the final interview. In conclusion, the theory stands that Alan could have killed his wife, and that Helzer was looking for evidence of Alan behaving guilty while around his family to prove his theory to be
