Most students don’t realize how easy it is to misuse and misappropriate Doctors’, Nurses’, and Medical Professionals’ ideas and documentation, otherwise known as plagiarizing. These medical professionals use a style of formatting and writing known as the American Psychological Association (APA) Style. This organization also sets the rules and guidelines for this style. Most students use the Modern Language Association (MLA) style of writing, but in the medical field the APA style is used. Although they are very similar, there are some slight differences. Each of these is unique to APA style of writing because this style is used to cite sources within the social sciences and these help create a clear way of doing that. A running header is equal height with the page number, it is on the left side, and it is the title of the paper in all capital letters, not exceeding 50 characters including spaces and punctuation. The running header is inserted at the top of every page in the writing, including the title page. A title page goes at the front of the paper and includes the title of the paper, the author’s name, and the institutional affiliation centered in the middle of the page, with the running header in the top left and the page number 1 in the top right (Paiz General). The title page is always the first page of the writing and is followed by the abstract page. The abstract is a brief summary of the significant points of the study being described in the paper. It has the same header as the other pages of the paper and is introduced simply with the word “Abstract”. The margins are set at 1 inch on all sides and 12 point, Times New Roman font is suggested. In-text citation is one of the most important parts of the APA style format. Citing within the text gives appropriate credit to the author of whose work was originally used or where the writer got their ideas from. The in-text citation specifies which source on the reference page the writer is referring to and what year the material being used was published.
