The way a civilization ran can tell us a lot about where we came from. Examining how China and Africa were thousands of years ago reveals incite onto why those regions perform various tasks and customs. For example, the ridged government style in early Chinese dynasties has left an imprint on the people of china today and explains their strict and obedient behavior and high expectations. Cities and States in China, located in East Asia, and West Africa had many similarities and differences in political and social aspects. Early Chinese dynasties differed politically from early Africa in the hierarchy structure. In China, the structure of government was very strict and orderly. Metaphorically speaking, these dynasties instilled a don’t-color-outside-the-lines type of living. Rulers wanted power and would do practically anything to achieve it. In the Shang dynasty, we know that there was a very feudal government with many territories and that the Shang King was overthrown by rebel slaves. However, in the Niger River valley of West Africa, archeologist have discovered artifacts and records suggesting settlements in Africa without the need for hierarchy, centralization, government structure, or written records at all. In China, the king suggested ideas which everyone contributed to complete. For example, if the dynasty decided to go to battle, citizens would be asked by the leader to join in the fighting. Daily jobs were part of the political structure because they were over seen by the leader. Although there is no evidence that early African societies had prominent ‘kings’ or designated ‘dictators, there is evidence of clan leaders who the people chose.
