Ap Psychology Personal Statement Examples

I studied brain and behaviour during my first year of clinical medicine, and found that I was particularly intrigued by neuroscience. Throughout my year at Barts and the London, I thought a lot about whether the course was right for me, and began considering other options. I struggled to feel passionate about the course and my future as a doctor, but decided to complete the year to confirm my feeling that a career in medicine was not right for me. During this year, however, I developed a particular interest in the study of the brain, brain development and human behaviour. These lectures became the highlight of the year, and made me really keen to learn more about the subject. I particularly enjoyed reading about complex somatosensory pathways, neurotransmission in the nervous system and the importance of the different cranial nerves. By the end of the summer, I had come to the decision that I wanted to pursue a career in neuroscience and research.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in a psychotherapy clinic in East London, sitting in on individual and family therapy sessions. I grew to understand the importance of treating patients using a holistic approach, and learnt how important it is to treat the patient on a personal and individual level. This is something that became clearer throughout my year at university, particularly during patient visits and time spent at a GP surgery. Although working in research as a neuroscientist will not involve so much patient contact on a personal level, I am looking forward to having the opportunity to make advances in new treatments to help and treat patients on a broader
