A Wonderful Year Taught by the Wizard of Maz This year in Mrs. Mazur’s AP Language class, the students learned a lot of useful skills in rhetorical writing. The essays at the beginning helped in preparing the students for the actual AP Language test at the end of the year. The vocabulary packets helped in broadening the pupils’ vocabulary which led to better word choice in their essays. Basically, everything in Mrs. Mazur’s AP Language class helped in one way or another.
Mrs. Mazur assigned her AP Language students essays every couple weeks with a different type of rhetorical writing as the style in which it had to be written in. She first assigned a precís for the students in order to get an idea of a good introductory paragraph should look like. After that, she gave the young scholars an illustration essay. Illustration essays paint an image of the author and his/her life. She gave her students a compare and contrast essay. This essay revealed either the similarities or difference of two ideas, sports, subjects, etc. to the reader. She ended the essays with a classification essay. This essay

These tests further improved the students writing skills by putting a time constraint on them. Also, Mazur gave her juniors a rhetorical book to study the first two chapters about writing and how to structure their papers to be a better a writer or speaker. She sprinkled vocabulary worksheets throughout the year to further bolster and expand the vocabulary of the pupils. This especially helped during the timed essays on the AP test. Mrs. Mazur’s students also had to read two pleasure books and four assigned books. She then followed up with either a project or study questions for the assigned books.
